You know those places you fall in love with practically at first sight, as soon as you step in it? Here, for me, it was so with the B & B La Pietra Piana! It is located in Pietrapiana, one of the innumerable hamlets of Reggello (province of Florence). After hearing about it again and again in an extremely
positive way, last June I finally managed to see it with my own eyes and with this place I want to talk to you about it. Here, then, my personal “review”: I want to do it because I liked it from the beginning, as soon as I crossed the entrance gate and saw the first glimpses of the courtyard. As I said, it is located in a small village in the Tuscan country, about 40-45 minutes drive from Florence. The price of a double room, at the end of June (from 23 to 25, to be clear) was 90 euros per night and in high season it reaches around 120 euros.
The double room in which I stayed for two nights, the number 3, was vast. The place was well organised, with a window on the courtyard and one on the “back”, taken near each table and bedside table (very convenient for those who, like me, lives on social and with the laptop handy), a relatively large bathroom and a very quiet paddle fan. The view from the courtyard on the valley is a spectacle, but here it is easy to play because Tuscany always offers crazy pictures, and you can take advantage of this view both at breakfast and at dinner. For breakfast, you will not find many things to eat, but in my opinion is the right amount for a B&B not very large (a little cereal, something sweet, some sliced and, often, even homemade desserts). For dinner you must remember to advise the property in time: in that way, Stefano (the B&B owner) can arrange your table and also alert the chef, whom you may meet when he arrives in the late afternoon.
The most beautiful thing about this structure? the swimming pool that Stefano defines as “organic” with spring water! Let me explain: the water arrives, with a continuous cycle, directly from a source and no chlorine is used to keep it clean. I know: questions like “but how do you keep it clean if you do not use chlorine? You know that disgusting? “(Or, also:” who knows how many fungi and diseases we take! “) Will be spontaneous to all of you who read this post, but I’m prepared for them too! In reality, the pool is not left dirty, of course: there is a small “robot” which, from the bottom of the pool, goes to clean everything that needs to (in this way, the pool can be defined clean and healthy to swim).
Why do I recommend going there? To find a little relaxation, enjoy the tranquillity of a place that, despite the proximity of the road keeps its guests sheltered from the chaos of the machines (they pass very few) and from the heat of the hot periods. This B&B is a post where you can relax aboard the small pool enjoying the view at sunset while eating apricots taken directly from the tree, to rest from the chaos of the city and the toil of work in a small oasis of the Tuscan countryside.
NB: as for breakfast I want to specify that, although there may be few things to choose from, I think that what is offered can be more than enough for a place little as this place. If then, like me, you can adapt and not always have “impossible” requests I’m sure you will find your breakfast here too. Finally, the fact that the staff is not very large (three, maybe four people) must be taken into account and, therefore, everything must be related to the size of the structure and staff that works there.
