Lanzarote has impressed me so much for its landscapes. During my week of travel on the island, I have been able to observe these panoramas in all ways and from various points of view, and today I try to tell you about it by talking about three belvederes of Lanzarote.
Let’s start from the Mirador del Rio, overlooking the small Isla la Graciosa and the small strip of water that separates it from Lanzarote. It was built in 1974 by Cesar Manrique, and the structure is perfectly integrated into the surrounding nature. You can enjoy the splendid panorama walking through the two outdoor terraces, whose only problem is the strong wind that pulls: for this reason the upper terrace could be closed due to a wind a bit stronger than usual. Inside there is a small cafe where you can stop to recover from the intense wind (even able to move you without needing you to do anything) and I
advise you to stop in here for a bit. The entrance fee costs € 4.50 (€ 2.25 reduced) and parking is free. For the bravest, who want to challenge the strong wind, there is a small road that starts just outside the parking lot where you can enjoy a spectacular view: on the one hand the volcanoes (which from the Mirador are hidden behind the parking lot) and on the other the island La Graciosa.
The “Belvedere” that struck me most is the Promontory of Punta Papagayo, located within the protected nature reserve called monument natural Los Ajaches. The guide I had with me speaks of a toll of € 3 per vehicle, but once they arrived at the entrance, they did not charge us anything (we also explicitly asked how much we had to pay). To get to the peninsula, you have to take a dirt road: it is not very good, I have to warn you of this, but it is feasible with practically all types of cars.
Just go slowly and pay attention: I saw a boy with a fiat 500 who took a high-risk trying to surpass me with carelessness at high speed (luckily he saved himself in extremis avoiding a spin that could involve dangerously other people and cars). This area is plenty of famous beaches and coves, fantastic and very populated (although it is not easy to get there). There is a small parking area where you can leave your car and even a tiny bar/restaurant where you can stop for a hot drink or something to eat.
I conclude this short post around the Belvedere of Lanzarote with the Balcon de Femés. It is located in the small village of Femés and overlooks the town of Playa Blanca and the El Golfo area. The view that this small balcony offers is not very wide because it is “limited” to the side by two hills, but it has an extension such as to hit those who arrive up here to face the sea. If you arrive here for lunchtime, you can stop at the small bar-restaurant overlooking the landscape: modest, of course, but reasonable and very affordable prices. The thing that struck me even more than this place is the tranquillity that reigns in the streets: few people, despite the cars and motorcycles parked and a silence that makes everything even more special
