London by tube (by C. Winn) – travel literature

I have read a lot, a lot about London. But I wanted to find more to read, to get to know it even better, also finding new places to visit (for when I can finally go back). And “London by tube”, by Christopher Winn, I found it while wandering on amazon just looking for a book about London to read!

Why not try to get to know the city by starting a walk from a tube station?

The book I’m talking about today tells about 80 short walks that can be done starting from London underground stops! They are all walks that, I found very interesting: some are already on the list of my “must-do” for the next trip to the city (it was supposed to be in December 2020, but I need to postpone my travel …. I will have more time to organize it even better).

Did you know that

From Stonebridge Park (Bakerloo Line) is it possible to walk to the largest Hindu temple in Europe? (I talked about the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir a few years ago, telling about some places to visit outside zone 1). And that from the Ealing Broadway stop (Central Line) it is possible to walk to the oldest film studios in the world?
London is the city of surprises: 600 square miles where surprises are always around the corner, but “hidden” behind the most obvious things. Panoramas, more or less particular (and not known) museums, very famous iconic places, unknown markets that are worth discovering. Theatres, which stage more or less historical shows, churches with a more or less language history: the places to find out in London are paradoxically (almost) infinite!
And often, a walk from one of its many subway stations is enough to discover these stories.
Spending a different day of travel than usual in London is very easy: there are so many things to do, the subway helps in getting from one place to another and London by Tube is full of suggestions. I have already talked a lot about London. I have written about a large part of its places to discover (from the most famous to others almost unknown). It is practically impossible to list my “absolute favourite” places: you can find all my post in the blog category dedicated to the English capital.
