Terme di Chianciano: 2 days of relax

Terme di Chianciano: 2 days of relax

I start writing this post with two possible types of comments in mind: those full of doubts and those coming from the “keyboard lions” for whom “you’re not old and with rheumatism” or “the baths are just from old people”… Well, I do not think so!
It isn’t the first time I spend a few days in Chianciano Terme, thanks to the Terme di Chianciano press office which has made available to me the entrances ticket for the Terme Sensoriali and the Theia thermal pools. For this post, I thought it would be interesting to talk about the differences and similarities between Terme Sensoriali and Theia thermal pools, with the motivations on which you should think about to choose where to go (the best thing is both, in my opinion!).
Piscine termali Theia Let’s start with the common aspect that the two spas have: attention to people does not pass exclusively through thermal water, massages or wellness centres, but also through the provision of “km0 food” and a study behind what they offer for their guests’ lunch. That said, let’s see what the differences are between the two facilities and let’s start with Theia thermal pools. Between the two facilities, this is the one with the largest area dedicated to swimming pools (if I’m not mistaken we are talking about 400 or 500 square meters!), divided between indoor and outdoor areas. For lunch, you can choose to go to the bar (order, pay, wait for your number to call for food), or sit in the small restaurant and order Tuscan dishes made with products at zero kilometres. Personally, I opted for this second possibility because I liked the idea of combining Tuscan food with products at km0 and, moreover,
Piscine termali Theia the price difference is not high. There are plenty of sun loungers available to guests, both in the covered area and in the outdoor area (be careful because in the closed parts is definitely hot) and it is almost impossible not to find one. The structure warns that you can not keep them busy without using them and the employees are allowed to free them, so remember not to leave essential things (just not to get a shot) and possibly go to ask someone of the staff where they have laid your things taken out of the cot. The pools and the bar/restaurant are located upstairs from the entrance, while on the same floor from which you enter, we find the spa and the play area for children.
In my opinion, this spa is especially suitable for those who want a middle ground between the life of the pool and the “pure life of a day at the spa”. Admission is also allowed to children, under three years of age do not pay (from 3 to 12 have reduced ticket) and under a certain age can only swim in the areas reserved for them. For doubts and questions, I give you th link to the official website (unfortunately, it isn’t all translated in
Terme sensoriali: piscine english). Now let’s talk about the Terme Sensoriali (“Sensory Baths”), located inside the Acquasanta Park of Chianciano Terme. Here, the swimming pool area is smaller than the ones you can find in the other structure but here are integrated on a single floor with the part dedicated to well-being (Turkish bath, sauna, showers, hot/cold path, etc.). Those who choose to spend a day here can choose to follow four different routes (depurative, energising, rebalancing, relaxing) simply “deciding a specific order to follow to live their experience in 20 rooms and activities[…]”. There is the possibility of talking with a naturopath to further customise the experience. The sludge zone is located on the “underground” level.
Terme sensoriali: percorso del gusto Regarding the food, there is an eye for the customer, with the careful choice of products offered to those who want to add lunch to their relaxing journey. All the dishes are made with “km0 products”, according to the logic of meals with starter, first and second. The buffet course was designed by Professor Nicola Sorrentino, the scientific director of Terme Sensoriali (and specialist in Food Science and Dietetics, in Hydrology, Climatology and Thalassotherapy). I had the opportunity to try it: as I imagined I was not disappointed, and if we hadn’t to go back to the pools, perhaps, I would have continued to eat that goodness still for a long
Terme sensoriali time. Remember only three things:
1) The room is small, and you must move on time to find a place;
2) the room is not open all day, but only during the hours you will know at the time of payment
3) admission to the spa lasts 3 hours and a half (so inform yourself well how it works).
Hotel Villa Ricci The night spent in Chianciano we stayed at the Hotel Villa Ricci, thanks to the Consorzio ChianciaSi: it is a consortium that contains within it almost 50 quality businesses in the Tuscan territory (the Terme di Chianciano, 26 hotels, three farms and companies that participate in this project). I found the double room large enough and the services offered by the hotel are precisely those of a three-star hotel, plus a small wellness centre. The location is excellent, for me, to reach the historic village of Chianciano in case you are not too relaxed to faint in bed (to me the baths are an extreme relaxation effect). I found a very abundant breakfast, especially for the desserts available to customers, and the view you can enjoy during breakfast hours, I found it excellent. As for the other meals of the day, in case you have booked a stay in full board or half board, there is both a fixed menu (from which you have to choose only the second) and a à la carte menu that offers, of course, different Tuscan dishes.
